Chios Music Festival, which was inaugurated in Summer 2017 in Chios island, is making an active comeback with a diverse programme and new collaborations.
From 27 July to 4 August all across the island, from the city of Chios to the villages of Olympoi and Pyrgi, there will be a series of concerts, educational activities for children and more composite performances, while, for a second year in a row, the festival is honoured to host distinguished artists from Greece and abroad. Among them: Chios-originated multi-awarded pianist Konstantinos Destounis, internationally acclaimed trumpet and piano soloist Sebastian Studnitzky, distinguished soprano-performer Angela Braun and the pioneer contemporary music ensemble LUX:NM from Berlin. This year’s programme includes, among other projects, musical journeys to the ports across the world, chamber music concerts with a vast repertory, as well as “The Mastic Opera”, Eleftherios Veniadis’ new project, which  is set on stage by the artistic director of Greek National Opera’ s Alternative Stage, Alexandros Efklidis.
The artistic direction of the festival bares the signature of Olga Holdorff-Myriangou and Eleftherios Veniadis.

Who are we

The vision behind the Chios Music Festival belongs to two young artists from Chios, who currently live and work in Berlin, Germany: it’s about a decade now that violinist Olga Holdorff-Myriangou and composer Lefteris Veniadis elaborate the idea of a festival that will vest the Chios island of their childhood memories with music, the island with the world-famous Mastic Villages, the labyrinthine medieval settlements, the atmospheric churches, the significant archeological sites, the picturesque squares, the fragrant fields with the citrus fruits and the unique variations of Chios’ landscape. This idea has matured over time and started taking shape through individual cultural events and educational activities for students, in collaboration with the schools of the island.

The great resonance, the enthusiasm and the interest of the people who took part in these events, who embraced and supported them in every possible way, made them gradually grow into a bigger organized structure. That’ s how the Chios Music Festival was born, an international festival that comes just on the right timing as an expression of respect and gratitude, as well as a message of joy and optimism towards all the islands’ inhabitants, both permanent and non-permanent.

Aims

The festival’ s main aim is to be established as an institution, a point of reference for Chios, that will make the island even more attractive to visitors, but it will also benefit in practice its permanent inhabitants. For this reason, the festival is divided into two seasons: the summer and the winter season. The winter season will focus on music educational programs for children and students.
